Chef Steve,
The kids loved the cookies, as did the rest of their family. Thank you for sending them. It was a real bright spot in what has been a very trying time for two little six-year old twins and their parents.
Their family evacuated New Orleans just before Hurricane Katrina with three days worth of belongings. They went to stay with relatives in Beaumont Texas. When it didn't look like they would be able to get back home, they had to start Kindergarten in Texas. Their first week of school was tough, then they got the cookies and some other care packages we sent, so that cheered everyone up.
Next came Hurricane Rita, which was aiming right for Port Arthur and Beaumont. Again, they had to flee. We haven't been able to contact them for about six days now, but are hoping they are somewhere safe.
Please know that what you do matters. Cookies may seem like a small thing, but to children under this kind of stress, they make a world of difference.
Best wishes,
Lynn |
