According to legend, Biscotti are among the first European imports to the New World, brought by Christopher Columbus during his 1492 voyage across the Atlantic.
There's little doubt that Columbus enjoyed Italian Biscotti, which first appeared in the town of Prato in Tuscany during the 13th century. Bakers in that era faced the challenge of creating foods that could stay fresh without preservatives, refrigeration, or airtight packaging.
Biscotti were the solution. Their name derives from the Latin "bis coctus," which means "twice cooked." Our Biscotti, made by La Patisserie of Winchester, Massachusetts, are created in the centuries-old Italian tradition. Dough is baked in large logs, then sliced to smaller, half-inch pieces that are baked a second time to remove moisture and preserve freshness.
This package of 12 includes such modern favorites as Chocolate Hazelnut Biscotti, Lemon Biscotti, and Butterscotch Pecan Biscotti along with the classic Almond Anisette Biscotti. Delicious by themselves or eaten in the traditional way, with a quick dunk into a cup of coffee or your other favorite beverage.
